Platelet-Rich Plasma Injection Therapy
Advanced Orthopaedic Specialists is pleased to offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) injection therapy.
PRP offers an innovative approach for the treatment of chronic sprain and strain injuries. The procedure involves injecting the patient’s own blood into the chronically damaged ligament or tendon.
A small amount of the patient’s blood is spun down in a special centrifuge, which highly concentrates the platelets in the blood. The resulting platelet concentrate is then injected directly into the damaged portion of the ligament or tendon. The platelets release substances known as growth factors that lead to improved natural tissue healing.
PRP Injections may be used for the following conditions:
- Tennis elbow
- Plantar Faciitis
- Achilles Tendinitis/tendinosis
- Rotator cuff tears
- Meniscal tears
- Joint arthritis
- Chronic low back and neck pain
Studies show that Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) induces the production of new collagen by the fibroblasts, bone and cartilage cells at the site of the injection, rebuilding the joint cartilage and strengthening injured ligaments and tendons. This new collagen is naturally incorporated directly into your existing cartilage and ligaments, making them thicker, stronger and more elastic.
