Advanced Orthopaedic Specialists, in partnership with LRGHealthcare is pleased to offer this innovative, robotic arm guided knee resurfacing surgery. LRGHealthcare is the first and only hospital in NH to offer MAKOplasty® Knee Resurfacing and MAKOplasty® Total Hip Arthroplasty.
Minimally Invasive Procedure ► Quicker Rehabilitation ► More Natural Knee Motion
The highly developed MAKOplasty technology behind the robotic arm (called RIO®) works in tandem with an interactive 3-D virtual patient-specific visualization system. Using a CT scan of the patient’s knee, the system provides the surgeon with a pre-surgical plan for bone preparation and customized knee implant positioning.
During the procedure, the computer generates a three-dimensional live-action, virtual view of the patient’s bone surface and correlates that image to the pre-programmed surgical plan. As the surgeon uses the robotic arm, its tactile, acoustic and visual feedback limits bone preparation to the diseased areas only and provides pinpoint accuracy for optimal implant positioning and placement for each patient.

MAKOplasty knee resurfacing*:
- Incision is small
- Procedure is minimally invasive
- More rapid recovery
- Shorter hospital stay
- More “natural feeling” knee following surgery
- Faster return to daily activities
Knee resurfacing with MAKOplasty can be performed on the inner, top, or outer compartment of the knee or a combination thereof. It can also be performed as a bicompartmental knee resurfacing surgery on both the inner and top portions of the knee.
What is Causing Your Knee Pain?
Most knee pain is caused by osteoarthritis, a degenerative joint disease and the most common form of arthritis. Many people commonly refer to the symptoms as “bone-on-bone,” “grinding,” or “total loss of cartilage.” However you describe it, osteoarthritis is a leading cause of disability and can be the result of a knee injury, repetitive strain on the knee, obesity, and a host of other factors. Until recently, this condition was usually addressed with “total knee replacement” surgery, a much more invasive procedure requiring an extensive rehabilitation.
If you suffer from knee pain that’s affecting your quality of life or you’ve been told you need a total knee replacement, it’s worth your time to investigate MAKOplasty.
The advantages of MAKOplasty:
- Spares healthy bone (allowing a patient to keep up to 72-percent more bone than with a “total knee” replacement procedure) and surrounding tissue.
- Improves mobility and pain relief, since the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) are not severed during knee resurfacing
- Requires minimal hospitalization and recuperation
Advanced Orthopaedic Specialists*, in partnership with LRGHealthcare is proud to be the first and only orthopaedic practice in the State of NH to offer MAKOplasty.®
The goal of this minimally invasive procedure is to restore the patient’s natural knee motion, providing a more natural feeling knee post operatively and a rapid recovery.
